Trail Building & Maintenance Workshop

Offered as part of CLCC's New London County Land Trust Advancement Initiative, this workshop will provide volunteers, conservation/ recreation land managers and those interested in becoming trail stewards with the tools and techniques to develop and maintain sustainable and enjoyable trails. The workshop will focus on reading the trail landscape, understanding grade and erosion mitigation, and clarifying trail purpose. In addition, sustainable trail design, maintenance and construction principles will be covered. The workshop will be comprised of a classroom session followed by an outdoor field study at Avalonia Land Conservancy's Tri-Town Preserve.  


Our instructor, Clare Cain, is the Trail Stewardship Director for the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) and is responsible for management of the 825-mile Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System. She has been building and designing trails professionally for the last 15 years.
