Please join the Connecticut Land Conservation Council for the 2020 Connecticut Land Conservation Conference--an on-line gathering for Connecticut's land conservation community. The full-day program features keynote speaker Rue Mapp, Founder and CEO of Outdoor Afro; a morning panel discussion with Felicia Keesing, Sadiya Muqueeth, and Raei Bridges; and a lunchtime Q&A with Raquel Rivera. We will finish the day with the annual Excellence in Conservation Awards and a concert featuring David Sutherland.

About the Conference Theme

This year has been like no other. The climate crisis, global protests over racial injustice, and the coronavirus pandemic has shaken the world to its core. These crises have taught us that we are intricately bound to one another, and to the health of our natural environment, regardless of the miles that may separate us. They have served to reveal some hard truths about our communities—including our land conservation work—where systemic racism and inequities have left too many people behind.  They have underscored the harsh reality that our current patterns of living on this earth are not sustainable. They have mobilized generations of activists screaming, “Enough is enough!" They are an urgent call to action. At this year’s Connecticut Land Conservation (Virtual) Conference, we will examine the integral convergence of environmental degradation, health, climate change, and social justice to talk about the essential role that your land conservation work plays in making the world a better, healthier, and more sustainable place to live for generations to come.

We are thrilled to announce that Rue Mapp, Founder and CEO, Outdoor Afro, will be the keynote speaker for our 2020 Connecticut Land Conservation (Virtual) Conference. In her keynote discussion titled, "A New Narrative," Rue Mapp will share through personal stories the motivation behind her organization Outdoor Afro; its evolution and social impact to date, and its relevance in these challenging times. She will also outline the urgency for why more diverse audiences need to build a relationship with recreational activities in the community, as a pathway toward greater health and environmental sustainability.
