Cultivating Leadership: A Three-Part Series for Land Trusts in the Farmington River Valley Area

The Land Trust Alliance and the Connecticut Land Conservation Council are partnering to offer a three-part series exploring strategies and tactics for organizational development and leadership. This series is designed for small land trusts in the Farmington River Valley area, with the following land trusts invited: Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Simsbury, Traprock, and Winchester
Each workshop will feature a presentation as well as guided paired, small and large group discussions designed to support each land trust’s self-assessment and self-determined opportunities and action steps.

Oct. 15, 6-7:30 p.m. Eastern
This session will explore nonprofit life cycles; defining what effective board leadership looks like for each organizational life stage, clarifying governing versus managing roles and exploring organizational principles around defining and stewarding roles for structural adaptation and growth over time.
Oct. 29, 6-7:30 p.m. Eastern
The goal of this session is to explore the importance of board-approved strategic and operational goals for your land trust and identify how success will be measured.
Nov. 12, 6-7:30 p.m. Eastern
This session will focus on recruiting the right board members and other volunteers for the roles the organization needs. We’ll also discuss hiring staff or contractors to maximize impact and explore other collaborative approaches to capacity needs.

About the Presenter:
Megan Motil, Founder and Principal of Parallel Solutions has spent her over 20-year career dedicated to community growth and development, land and water conservation and stewardship, food and farming systems, housing, transportation, and access to nature and outdoor recreation.
