Trees for Communities
DEEP is pleased to announce the “Trees for Communities” grant program with support from the US Forest Service. Funding is available to state and local government entities, federally recognized tribes, non-profit organizations, and other eligible entities in Connecticut to support urban forestry projects that will increase tree cover or contribute to other urban forestry objectives such as improvement of forest health or utilization of urban wood in communities of need. The maximum individual award is $200,000 with no match requirement. Potential projects include but are not limited to:
- Tree planting, stewardship, and maintenance
- Planning projects (e.g. tree inventories and forest management plans)
- Workforce development
- Invasive species management
- Urban wood utilization

The deadline for applications is August 31st at 5:00 PM. Questions will be accepted through July 17th and a FAQ will be published to the Trees for Communities Grant Program page by July 24th. There will be an informational webinar on July 8th at 4:30 PM and biweekly virtual office hours for ongoing guidance and project development support. Registration is required for the July 8th webinar. Office hours are drop-in and can be found on the Trees for Communities Grant Program page.
