Farmington Land Trust is a nonprofit organization established in 1971 by Farmington residents. Its mission is to protect open space in perpetuity through acquisition, education, stewardship, and advocacy. The Land Trust protects over 300 acres of woodlands, meadows, and wetlands in 70 parcels throughout the town.

The Executive Director (ED) plays a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of the FLT and serves as the public face of the organization within the town and the broader community.

The ED reports to the Board of Directors and works closely with the President to advance FLT’s mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Maintain and update the organization’s strategic plan to align with its mission and goals.

Staff Oversight: Manage and oversee two part-time staff members: the Development Coordinator and the Education Coordinator.

Environmental Education: Promote environmental education programs by collaborating with local public schools, community colleges, and universities.

Property Stewardship: Support the coordination of new property acquisitions and ensure proper maintenance of FLT properties.

Fundraising & Development: Actively participate in securing operational funds through local and statewide donations and grants.

Volunteer Coordination: Supervise volunteer committees and foster engagement with abutting neighbors, visitors, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with volunteers, educational institutions, and the public.
Experience in establishing donor relations and grant writing.
Passion for conservation, environmental health, and community engagement.
Experience in nonprofit leadership preferred.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Environmental education is a plus.
