Farm Program Manager – Green Village Initiative
This position consists of long and short-term project management, community building, and long-term growth of food justice in the city of Bridgeport. This position includes both indoor and field-based work, requiring the ability to multitask, communicate very clearly, work outdoors in hot and cold weather, lead and manage teams of staff, volunteers and visitors in farm and food justice work with energy while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment on site. We are looking for someone eager to lead a passionate team dedicated to helping each other achieve goals in creating a more just food system in Bridgeport.
The Farm Program Manager will further develop and implement our year-round program strategy for our farm, located at Reservoir Community Farm. Our farm program is multifaceted and includes: providing fresh, affordable food for our immediate community; facilitating new food business development through offering educational programs, growing space and a farmers market; increasing knowledge and skills in food justice among the Bridgeport community, especially youth; and creating a sense of ownership and belonging on the farm among neighbors and visitors. Day to day tasks include management of part-time staff, communicating with other GVI teams, all vegetable production, upholding all safety procedures, and oversight of food safety practices on site, produce sold during farmer’s market season, weekly volunteer days, and community building.
The Farm Program Manager will be the guide and leader in all farm programming, with safety top of mind and with an eye towards long term sustainability in the Bridgeport community. This position will work closely with our Executive Director and Programs Director to further develop and improve our weekly workshop series, organize volunteer engagement, manage our Farmers Market to be a welcoming and inclusive space, and create new opportunities for community engagement in GVI’s mission and programs.
