“Three-year-old Fiona Steinnagel crouched down by the river, scooped up a tiny toad and showed it to the small group of hikers gathered for Roxbury Land Trust’s inaugural Tales and Trails program.“ Through story-time and a short walk, pre-schoolers and kindergartners participating in this new program were introduced to rivers, insects, farms, and meadows on four of the land trust’s (over 30) preserves. Said Executive Director Ann Astarita, “When you introduce kids to nature early, they have more of an understanding of it and a compassion for the creatures who live outside.”
