C.13 Culturally Responsive Stewardship and Accountability in Land Trusts

This workshop focuses on the role of land trusts in advancing culturally responsive stewardship and accountability within their conservation efforts. Participants will explore strategies for recognizing and protecting cultural heritage, interpreting diverse histories, and incorporating community feedback into their work. The session will emphasize the importance of measuring impact and maintaining transparency in DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) initiatives. By integrating these principles, land trusts can create more equitable and inclusive conservation practices that resonate with and benefit diverse communities. By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of culturally responsive stewardship in land conservation.
  • Learn strategies to protect sites of cultural significance and interpret diverse histories.
  • Explore methods for measuring impact and ensuring transparency in DEIB efforts.
  • Develop an action plan to incorporate culturally responsive stewardship and accountability in their land trust’s work.
