C.2 Unified by Nature: Land Trusts and Water Companies Collaborating for Conservation
Water companies and land trusts share the goal of safeguarding our natural environment for water quality and quantity, public health and recreation, and more. This session will feature case studies, practical insights, and guidance on the importance of conserving water company land in meeting local, regional, and statewide conservation goals and building productive partnerships with land trusts that benefit the environment and local communities. Ideal for land trust leaders, municipal officials, and water company representatives, the workshop provides actionable strategies to foster collaboration and achieve shared conservation goals. Topics will include (1) Access for Stewardship and Trail Development: Learn how land trusts and water companies can work together to create stewardship plans, develop trails, and ensure responsible public access while maintaining water quality and resource integrity; and (2) Disposition Process and Opportunities for Permanent Protection: Understand the legal and regulatory framework surrounding water company land dispositions and discover how land trusts can play a key role in permanently protecting these critical lands. There will be plenty of time for Q&A and discussion.
