Workshops
C.9 Northwest Connecticut Affordable Housing & Conservation Collaboration: Finding Cross-Sector Alignment for Our Communities’ Futures
This workshop is for everyone. Participants will learn about a successful effort to build a network in Northwest Connecticut aligned around sustaining their communities through the pursuit of affordable housing and conservation goals together – and explore ways to replicate the work (or aspects of it) in their own communities. Participants will leave with broad ideas, specific actions, and resources – documentary, film, and interpersonal. Between January and September 2024, teams from 8 Northwest CT towns representing: their (1) local land trust, (2) local housing org, (3) Planning & Zoning Commission, and (4) Board of Selectmen gathered to find common purpose, alignment in their goals, and identify ways to support each other. Together they created a Report, Webpage, film, a groundswell of goodwill, and a path forward to continued collaboration. Presenters will include both project leaders and peers from the communities and include ample time for audience reflection and question/answers.
