B.4 Protecting Mature and Old-Growth Forests While Strengthening the Nation’s Communities and Local Economies

Room: TBD
Intermediate Level

On Earth Day in 2022, President Biden issued EO#14072: Strengthening the Nation’s Forests, Communities, and Local Economies. This presentation will give an overview of this order and the resulting efforts. These analyses have led to a large-scale reckoning in the hopes of reimagining our relationship to the forests held dear by so many. This presentation seeks to discuss this situation at length, particularly in the context of the ever evolving threats to our nation’s forest resources and the ways in which our forests can mitigate the impacts of climate change. What will it take to protect mature and old-growth forests, and what should be their role in our society?
