Strategic and Succession Planning – Making Time for these Key, Interrelated Governance Functions

1:15pm - 2:30pm
Room: Boger 114
Intermediate Level

We will examine risks associated with (1) lack of board turnover, (2) lack of attention to strategic discussion and communication leading to rapid turnover or disengagement, (3) transfer of institutional knowledge, (4) board diversity, (5) board recruitment, (6) personnel capacity. We will consider how strategic planning and succession differ and become more complex for working boards including all-volunteer or minimally staffed land trusts. The workshop will include a presentation with ample time for questions, as well as time for participants to work on their own and in small groups to envision putting tools for addressing the risks into practice.

Presenter(s)

Connie Manes, Circuit Rider, Land Trust Alliance
