Connecting with Youth and Tribal Perspectives on Landscape Care & Conservation
Join us as we explore land relations and care from a tribal perspective, focusing on our own experiences and teachings, including the foundational 4 R’s: Relationship, Respect, Reciprocity, and Responsibility. These principles serve as a framework for understanding what it means to be human and to play our role of fostering healthy relationships with the rest of the natural world. Through this interactive youth-led roundtable discussion, participants will delve into rich cultural perspectives that highlight the intrinsic relational values of plant and animal life, opportunities to foster regeneration in ecological systems, and the ways human activities impact the environment. They will also reflect on the profound role that reverence plays in land conservation efforts, considering how a spiritual connection to the land can inspire great stewardship through mutuality and reciprocity–in other words, love. Attendees will contribute to the conversation and leave with a renewed understanding of what it means to engage in stewardship efforts that honor cultural heritage and recognize the interconnectedness of all living things.
