From Challenge to Change: Youth and Critical Community Science

Intro Level

The critical community science (CCS) tool (Fowler, 2023) encourages users to consider sociopolitical and cultural connections to topics of environmental concerns. The tool highlights six dimensions (i.e., community assets, representation & membership, history, science knowledge, ways of being, and futures) that allow youth and adults to co-design meaningful environmental efforts. In this workshop, we will: 1) explain the CCS tool (review each dimension and provide student project examples) and 2) apply the CCS tool to co-develop a project focused on a socio-environmental topic. Attendees will develop skills to implement the CCS tool in their own environmental efforts.
