Increasing Land Access for Urban Farmers
Through USDA-NIFA funding, the University of Connecticut Extension and the Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR), along with three Connecticut Councils of Government and several partners, are exploring methods to increase land access for urban farmers on municipally owned and land trust properties in southwest Connecticut. GIS mapping with input from urban farmers, municipal professionals, and community partners is being used to increase support for urban and peri-urban agricultural activities and assist farmers in identifying vacant, underutilized parcels that have potential to support urban agriculture. Participants will learn about the process we are undertaking through this 4-year project.
