Preparing for Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Farmland Access Program: OPAV, Buy Protect Sell, and More

Intro Level, Intermediate Level, Advanced Level

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture (CT DoAg) is preparing to establish and administer a grant program to preserve farmland and increase farmer access to land. Nonprofits, land trusts, and municipalities are among the potential recipients of this grant. Before the program is launched, this roundtable discussion will help to prepare potential applicants to understand how the grant funds might be utilized for the Option to Purchase at Agricultural Value, Buy Protect Sell, and other tools to improve farmland access and affordability. We will look at examples and hear from practitioners already implementing these tools on farmland in the region.
