This summer, with the help of the Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust, Bud Wright — an original member of the Bridgewater Land Trust — permanently protected Comanche Hill Farm, 34 acres of prime farmland in his town of Bridgewater. The land was protected with a conservation easement with the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s State Farmland Preservation Program, which pays farmers for the development rights on their farms. The land is part of a swath of farmland that is key to Bridgewater’s rural and agricultural character and heritage.
At a celebration on October 4, Bud said it was his and his wife Maureen’s dream to protect the land. “In our own small way, we were able to protect 85 acres in Bridgewater. We’re pretty proud of that.”
