July’s events included a fantastic Conservation Conversation at the Manchester Land Conservation Trust (MLCT) annual Volunteer and Member Appreciation Picnic. This event, set against the backdrop of MLCT’s Bush Hill Farm, was a testament to the power of community and collaboration in advancing local land conservation.
Each year, CLCC and land trusts across the state showcase conservation success stories, like MCLT’s protection of Bush Hill Farm, made possible by the state Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program (OSWA), the Community Investment Act (CIA), and other state, federal, and local investments. We were honored to have Majority Leader Jason Rojas, State Representative Jason Doucette, and their families join us and the MLCT for this wonderful community celebration. Their presence underscored the significant impact of partnerships and legislative support in advancing our shared conservation goals.
Advocating for OSWA and other land conservation funding programs is a top priority for CLCC. Our efforts include lobbying for increased bond funding, supporting the DEEP Land Acquisition Management team, and safeguarding the CIA. We also work diligently to ensure legislative changes through our leadership on the State Open Space Review Board and the Connecticut Environmental Equity and Justice Advisory Council to improve access to these programs.
While achieving these successes through our advocacy in Hartford is gratifying, nothing beats the satisfaction of getting together with friends and family on lands protected across the state by Connecticut’s amazing land trusts.
P.S. From hikes to paddling, concerts to birding, and so much more, land trust events are happening throughout the summer. Find a land trust and have fun on the lands you generously help to protect.
