Food Insecurity Workshop with Steep Rock Association
September 27 | 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Steep Rock Association, its Judea Garden Preserve, and CLCC are pleased to invite you to a workshop and open discussion on reducing food insecurity by providing healthy, fresh produce to our neighbors in need on Saturday, September 27, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm (lunch included) at Steep Rock Association, 124 Christian Street, Washington, CT.
According to Feeding America’s “Map the Meal Gap,” Connecticut’s food insecurity rate in 2023 was 14.3% with the Northwest Corner not far behind. With the continued increase in food prices, we can only imagine that the number of households needing food assistance will increase.
We believe that the strength and knowledge gained by sharing our ideas and resources can only help reduce this number. Through Judea Garden, now in its 17th season of growing vegetables for those who need them, Steep Rock has created one model to help improve access to fresh healthy vegetables in our community; we know there are more. The goal of this workshop is to connect organizations working on food insecurity with land trusts who may have suitable lands to provide fresh food.
This has been made possible thanks to a community conservation implementation grant from the Connecticut Land Conservation Council as part of a project funded by the Connecticut Community Foundation.
Together, let’s discover what might work.
