Thanks to a partnership between Steep Rock Association (SRA) and the Connecticut Farmland Trust, funded in part by a CT DEEP Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant, the Johnson Farm in Washington has been permanently protected.
Located on a scenic road and within walking distance from SRA’s West Mountain Preserve, the property will continue to be farmed by Eliot Johnson, a third-generation farmer who grows hay and raises grass-fed beef.
The property provides habitat for birds that nest in pastureland and late-cut fields, as well as expanded opportunities for hiking trails and open space connectivity in the Washington area…
