As we near the end of another year at the Connecticut Land Conservation Council, I find myself reflecting on a question raised during our recent board meeting: How do we measure the impact of CLCC’s mission to elevate and strengthen land conservation?
Some of the metrics are clear. This year alone, we have:

• Granted over $156,000 to land trusts, aiding in the conservation of nearly 1,473 acres across our state.
• Hosted the largest Connecticut Land Conservation Conference in our history, bringing together nearly 600 conservationists to share knowledge, build connections, and celebrate our collective progress.
• Awarded $150,000 in critical funding to nine climate-smart land stewardship projects, impacting over 900 acres of land trust properties.
• Advocated to protect, enhance, and leverage state land conservation funding, helping to protect 2,626 acres of open space through 17 projects in 18 municipalities across Connecticut.
  Yet, the true impact of CLCC’s work goes beyond numbers.

It is felt in moments like when a family joins us for a “bird and hike” at a land trust property and spots a rare bird, or when a community rallies to safeguard a beloved local landscape, fix a washed-out bridge, or pay tribute to a conservation hero.

These are the conservation success stories happening every day in Connecticut. They remind us why our mission matters—because land conservation is about bringing people together and protecting the places that make life in Connecticut better.
