Bird-Friendly Forestry for Land Trusts

Intro Level, Intermediate Level, Advanced Level

Connecticut’s forests are important breeding, migratory, and year-round habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Many of these birds have experienced significant population declines due to loss of quality habitat. This workshop will cover landscape- and stand-level habitat needs for forest birds, across both young and mature forest. Participants will learn about management options and examples for improving habitat quality alongside other stewardship goals. We will also include opportunities for next steps to manage your forested properties with birds in mind, including engaging with CT DEEP Service Forestry, working with an Audubon-endorsed forester, and joining Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Maple program.
