Building Community Action Around Shared Conservation Values
Success in protecting nature relies on the engagement and empowerment of local communities, with indispensable personal knowledge and connections. When community members participate in hands-on activities that are immediately relevant to themselves and their surroundings, they develop a deeper attachment to the land and vested interest in its well-being. This workshop explores how tools and strategies used by community organizers can build networks of engaged neighbors taking conservation action. Case studies will illustrate different tools used in both urban and rural Connecticut towns. Discussion and a group exercise will help participants explore the opportunities presented for their own organizations’ goals.
