Firefly Sanctuaries: Conservation, Learning, and Engagement
Firefly sanctuaries are emerging as a tool for conserving and learning about fireflies. We will explore case-studies from around the country, including that of a land trust in MA that went from not even knowing if fireflies were present at a preserve to having insights into the diversity, habitat use and seasonality of their fireflies. Learn the core components of a firefly sanctuary plan, how to conduct firefly community science, and how to identify fireflies of Connecticut to genus. Brainstorm what a firefly sanctuary might look like in your community or on the lands you steward.
