Grantwriting 101: Show Me the Green
For starters, the term grantwriting is a misnomer. Securing grants from private foundations is as much about relationship building and accountability as it is about writing. While a poorly written application will sink your ship, a well-written proposal won’t necessarily get you the green. Approaching your proposals as if you were the person on the other side of the grants table can help. So can a few tricks of the trade. This workshop will serve as an introduction to grantsmanship for the largely uninitiated and will gallop right along, covering identifying and cultivating new potential funding sources; reading a Form 990; managing funder relationships; researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals; and preparing and submitting compliance reporting. We’ll also go over some of the more obscure (dare we say preposterous?) questions that applicants may be asked on grant applications from time to time.
