Making the Most of Your Municipal & Land Trust Farmland with CT Farmlink

Room: Boger 111
Intro Level, Intermediate Level, Advanced Level

Farmers in CT are in constant need of land to securely lease and purchase. We will discuss the current needs of farmers searching for land throughout the state, as well as best practices for assessing your farmland, publicizing your opportunity, finding the right farmer for your land, and executing a secure tenure option for that farmer. We will draw on our experiences working with farmers to help you avoid pitfalls and friction points that can derail farmland leases. We will also discuss how leasing farmland may help your land trust or municipality meet other conservation and social goals. This workshop will provide time for discussion so attendees can leave with next steps in mind for farmland in their stewardship.

Presenter(s)

Kip Kolesinksas, Consulting Conservation Scientist, CT Farmland Trust

Kae Vargas, Farmlink Coordinator, CT Farmland Trust
