Policy Protections for Old Growth Forests in Connecticut and Around New England
The oldest forests in New England aren’t going to permanently protect themselves. Though 85% of Connecticut’s forests are 60+ years old, less than 2% are more than 120 years old and offer the diverse ecosystem benefits of late successional woodlands. This session will orient participants towards past efforts to adopt state policy for Late Successional and Old Growth (LSOG) identification, protection, and stewardship in CT, introduce other emergent policy strategies around the region, and offer connections to other aligned advocates, practitioners, and useful research.
