Satellite Monitoring: Principals to Practices
Aerial monitoring is an increasingly valuable tool for land trusts facing encroachment risks, limited capacity, growing portfolios, and changing landscapes. This workshop will explore the benefits and limitations of satellite monitoring, with a focus on Lens software. We will discuss the Land Trust Alliance’s standards and best practices while learning strategies to identify encroachments, read landscapes, and address boundary data accuracy. First-hand examples will demonstrate when satellite imagery has been an invaluable tool, and when it has fallen short. We will discuss factors to consider when building an aerial monitoring program and outline partnership opportunities with Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy.
