Group of people gathering outside listening to Rep. Maria Horn talk

Each year, CLCC and land trusts host “Conservation Conversations” – opportunities to visit land conservation success stories made possible through the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Open Space & Watershed Land Acquisition Program (OSWA), supported by the Community Investment Act, alongside other public and private contributions.

On August 18, CLCC and the Sharon Land Trust (SLT) co-hosted a Conservation Conservation at the newly unveiled Von Ahn Preserve. Spanning 170-acres, this preserve showcases the potential of collaborative efforts and strategic funding.

Protected with financial assistance from OSWA, federal Highlands funding, and private donations, Von Ahn Preserve boasts diverse features— fields and forest, significant wetlands, and inviting trails—offering access to a tapestry of regional forestland. With historical importance and a breathtaking panoramic view, the preserve embodies the significant contributions of local land trusts.

Before our hike, State Representative Maria Horn, Chair of the Finance, Bonding, and Revenue Committee, highlighted the intricate state land conservation funding process, emphasizing the value of grassroots advocacy in supporting programs like OSWA.
