Part of the Conserving Land by Staying Connected the Land Trust Treasurers Summit is an annual gathering of the state’s land trust leaders. The Summit fosters peer-to-peer networking for a group of individuals serving in a similar capacity in diverse land trusts, and who otherwise might not get the opportunity to meet and talk.

This year’s summit will include structured discussion about some of the topics that land Treasurers are currently grappling with. When completing the registration form, participants will have the opportunity to indicate topics of interest, concerns about their organization or role, or other topics for discussion. In the past, discussion topics have included:

• Ensuring sufficiency of financial resources (building endowments, strategic reserves, and smart budgets)
• Income diversification (opportunities and things to stay away from)
• Investment strategies (how much and where to invest, ESG investing, etc.)
• Succession planning for the Treasurer position

Based on feedback from last year’s Summit, we will also incorporate a breakout session into the program agenda. These smaller group discussions will allow treasurers to discuss issues that are applicable to their organization’s operating budget and level of financial complexity.

The Summit also gives CLCC an opportunity to gather information and gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Connecticut’s land trusts and their Presidents.
