Bill and Mary-Ellen McDonald regularly host firefly viewing parties on their lawn for their neighbors. The event is meant to raise awareness of lawns as habitats and encourage others to avoid pesticides and mowing so that fireflies return to those habitats. Those interested in seeing fireflies may visit the firefly sanctuary with the New Canaan Land Trust, which Bill McDonald helped to start.
