Connecticut Land Conservation Council Announces Recipients of 2024 Excellence in Conservation Award

Middletown, CT, March 23, 2024 – The Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC) proudly announces the winners of the 2024 Excellence in Conservation Awards. These prestigious awards honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to land conservation efforts in Connecticut and whose work serves as an inspiration or model for conservation efforts statewide.

This year’s recipients include:

  • Peter B. Cooper, Esquire, honored with the first Peter B. Cooper Award for Excellence in Conservation Law, a new award named in his honor, recognizing his lifelong dedication to conservation law and environmental stewardship.
  • Barton Jones, recipient of the Katchen Coley Award for Excellence in Conservation, celebrated for his leadership and conservation achievements with the Cornwall Conservation Trust.
  • Traprock Ridge Land Conservancy, awarded the Excellence in Conservation Organization Award, acknowledged for its innovative approach to regional land conservation through collaboration.
  • Aspetuck Land Trust, with Special Recognition of Reggy Saint Fortcolin, receiving the Excellence in Community Engagement Award, for their exceptional work in connecting communities to conservation and nature.
  • Hiram Williams, celebrated as a Conservation Hero, for his visionary leadership in landscape-scale conservation and the growth and protection of Connecticut’s natural treasures.

In recognizing this year’s honorees, Gwen Marrion, CLCC Board Chair, said, “Through dedication and collaboration, these recipients exemplify the heart of conservation, forging pathways towards a sustainable future for Connecticut’s natural heritage. Their work not only safeguards our environment but also inspires us all to become stewards of the land.
